The X-ray Size-temperature Relation for Intermediate Redshift Galaxy Clusters
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present the first measurements of the X-ray size-temperature (ST) relation in intermediate redshift galaxy clusters. We interpret the local ST relation in terms of underlying scaling relations in the cluster dark matter properties, and then we use standard models for the redshift evolution of those dark matter properties to argue that the ST relation does not evolve with redshift. We then use ROSAT HRI observations of 11 clusters to examine the intermediate redshift ST relation; for currently favored cosmological parameters, the intermediate redshift ST relation is consistent with that of local clusters. Finally, we use the ST relation and our evolution model to measure angular diameter distances; with these 11 distances we evaluate constraints on ΩM and ΩΛ which are consistent with those derived from studies of Type Ia supernovae. The data rule out a model with ΩM = 1 and ΩΛ = 0 with 2.5σ confidence. Subject headings: galaxies: clusters: general — intergalactic medium — cosmology

X-ray Properties of Intermediate-redshift Groups of Galaxies
We have undertaken a multiwavelength project to study the relatively unknown properties of groups and poor clusters of galaxies at intermediate redshifts. In this paper, we describe the XMM-Newton observations of six X-ray selected groups with 0.2 < z < 0.6. The X-ray properties of these systems are generally in good agreement with the properties of low-redshift groups. They appear to follow th...
متن کاملMass-Temperature Relation of Galaxy Clusters: A Theoretical Study
Combining conservation of energy throughout nearly-spherical collapse of galaxy clusters with the virial theorem, we derive the mass-temperature relation for X-ray clusters of galaxies T = CM. The normalization factor C and the scatter of the relation are determined from first principles with the additional assumption of initial Gaussian random field. We are also able to reproduce the recently ...
متن کاملConstraining Ω 0 from X − ray properties of Clusters of Galaxies at high redshift
Properties of high redshift clusters are a fundamental source of information for cosmology. It has been shown by Oukbir and Blanchard (1997) that the combined knowledge of the redshift distribution of X-ray clusters of galaxies and the luminosity-temperature correlation, L X − T X , provides a powerful test of the mean density of the Universe. In this paper, we address the question of the possi...
متن کاملJ un 2 00 8 RXJ 1648 . 7 + 6109 : Witnessing the Formation of a Massive Group / Poor Cluster and its Brightest Galaxy
Using deep Chandra and optical spectroscopic observations, we investigate an intriguing, young massive group, RXJ1648.7+6109, at z = 0.376, and we combine these observations with previous measurements to fit the scaling relations of intermediate-redshift groups and poor clusters. RXJ1648 appears to be in an early stage of formation; while it follows X-ray scaling relations, its Xray emission is...
متن کاملHigh redshift X – ray galaxy clusters . II . The L X − T relationship revisited
Aims. In this paper we re-visit the observational relation between X–ray luminosity and temperature for high-z galaxy clusters and compare it with the local L X –T and with theoretical models. Methods. To these ends we use a sample of 17 clusters extracted from the Chandra archive supplemented with additional clusters from the literature, either observed by Chandra or XMM–Newton, to form a fina...
